Persian Star – Purple Stripe hardneck variety. Originally purchased in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, by John Swenson, AKA “Samarkand Purple”. Persian Star thrives in exceptionally cold winter climates. Known as one of the best tasting Purple Stripes from garlic expert Ted Jordan Meredith, author of The Complete Book of Garlic. Zesty flavor that mellows after baking. As with all the Purple Stripes, it has the classic pinstripes of burgundy and red on creamy white skin.
Persian Star Garlic characteristics: 9 – 12 cloves. 50 – 60 cloves per pound. Mid harvest. Stores 6 months. Hot.
