Tri-colored green Split Pea Soup

Ingredients 2 1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil 1/2 onion, chopped 3 carrots, chopped 3 stalks celery, chopped 2 small potatoes, chopped 1 bay leaf 5 cloves garlic, minced 2 cups dried split peas 1/2 cup barley 1 teaspoon salt 6 1/2 cups water 1/2 cup parsley, dried or fresh 1/2 teaspoon dried basil 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Directions: In large pot over medium heat, sauté oil, onion for 5 minutes, or until onions are translucent.
